Planning Enters Year 2 for Grade Level Changes
Excitement is building as PSD moves forward with plans to move to Kindergarten through grade 5 elementary schools, grades 6-8 middle schools and grades 9-12 high schools in 2009. Changing grade levels will allow PSD to:
-
Encourage more students to complete Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) and dual enrollment college classes, and
-
Provide students with more opportunities to meet graduation requirements to assure they complete high school and are prepared for post-secondary challenges and options.
Schools are planning ways to assure the transition is positive for both 6th graders moving to middle schools, and 9th graders moving into high schools.
School of Choice Information and Application dates for 2009-10
- School of Choice applications are being accepted at 3 of PSD's 4 comprehensive high schools: Fort Collins, Fossil Ridge and Poudre high schools.
- Rocky Mountain High School is closed to School of Choice students for 2009-10 school year.
- Applications are now submitted online - visit www.psdschools.org under the School Registration star, or go to the school for assistance.
- School of Choice application deadlines and decision making:
- First round for 2009-10 school year: February 13, 2009 for elementary (Kindergarten - grade 5); and January 30, 2009 for secondary (grades 6 - 12). Decisions are based on the impact on class size, depending on the number of courses and/or classrooms at that school.
New Boundaries Approved For High Schools
- New high school boundaries go into effect fall 2009, and will be phased in over two years.
- All current 10th and 11th grade students in affected areas will be allowed to finish their high school career at their current high school.
- PSD will begin studying elementary and middle school boundaries in the fall 2009 or later, once grade levels have changed and there is more information on student population trends.
